Captain L. Sumners
After serving 11 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, Capt. Lee Sumners began his law enforcement career as a patrolman in Hope Mills in June 2000. In 2004, he was assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Unit. He became the first Police K-9 handler at the Hope Mills Police Department alongside his K-9 partner “Boo”. In 2013, he was promoted to Sergeant. After K-9 Boo’s retirement, he became the handler for K-9 Ringo. Sgt. Sumners was promoted to Lieutenant in 2018 and then promoted to Captain in 2022 where he currently presides over the daily operations of the Hope Mills Police Department.
