Spotlight on HMPD - Animal Control ServicesACS_Howard

The Hope Mills Police Department’s Animal Services is responsible for the enforcement of the Hope Mills Animal Ordinances. The team provides assistance to police officers dealing with situations involving animals, investigates animal bites, imposes regulations on dangerous animals, investigates reports of cruelty toward animals, impounds animals at large, assists sick or injured animals and assists police in addressing public n uisance violations such as dogs barking excessively.

In 2010, Animal Control Specialist P. Howard answered 606 calls for service and 730 year to date in 2011 which is a 20% increase. ACS Howard duties include periodic foot patrols, neighbourhood canvassing, public awareness presentations, and assisting the public with the loan of traps for the capture of domestic nuisance animals.

In August, the department's Animal Control vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle accident. The vehicle has since been replaced with a new 2011 Ford F150, equipped with the latest equipment and a mobile data terminal (MDT), which allows ACS Howard to provide the best service possible to the public.

The police department would like to express our thanks to the Cumberland County Animal Control Services for the assistance provided to the citizens of Hope Mills and our department during the time that the department was without a transport vehicle.

If you have questions related to Animal Control; please contact ACS Howard at (910) 425-4103 ext. 3562. The department provides animal services from 8 a.m. - 5p.m., Monday through Friday.
