Boards and Committees

The Town of Hope Mills encourages your participation in governmental decisions.  Descriptions of the various committees/boards are listed below.  Committee memberships are reserved for town residents and individuals are encouraged to serve on only one committee.

 

If you are interested in being considered for membership on any of the Committees, please complete the attached application.  Original, signed applications are required in order to be considered.  Submit the completed application to the Town Clerk.

 

 

APPEARANCE COMMISSION

Established by town ordinance, the Appearance Commission seeks to enhance and improve the visual quality and aesthetic characteristics of the town.

The Appearance Commission has seven (7) members.

When they meet:  The Appearance Commission meets the 4th Monday of each month at 7:00 pm.

Where they meet: Hope Mills Recreation Center

ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT

Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial board responsible for ruling on appeals, variances and special uses in the town of Hope Mills.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment has five (5) regular members & three (3) alternate members

When they meet:   The Board of Adjustments meets on the 3rd Thursday at 3:00 pm when needed.

TOWN ZONING BOARD

The Zoning Board serves as an advisory board to the Governing Body.  The Zoning Board shall make recommendations to the Town Board on initial zoning matters, rezoning matters, zoning ordinance amendments, and/or subdivision/development ordinance amendments.

The Town Zoning Board has seven (7) members.

When they meet: The Zoning Board meets the 4th Monday of each month at 3:00 pm.

 PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Working closely with the town’s Parks & Recreation Department, this committee seeks to recommend and plan programs of recreation activities and events.  In addition to the regular membership there are four liaison members who represent the Hope Mills Sunshine Center, Hope Mills Senior Citizens Club, the Sycamore Tree Senior Citizens Center, and the Hope Mills Youth Association.

The Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee has seven (7) regular members and four (4) liaison members.

When they meet:  The Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee meets the 4th Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Where they meet: Hope Mills Recreation Center

 HISTORIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The committee advises the governing body on issues related to historic identification and preservation.

When they meet:  Historic Advisory Committee meets the 2nd Wednesday, quarterly at 12:00 p.m. – March, June, September and December.

VETERANS AFFAIRS COMMISSION

The committee is composed of town residents who are armed services veterans.  The members of this committee advise the town on affairs related to our active and retired military citizens.

When they meet:  No regular meeting schedule established.

 COMMISSION ON EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (C.O.E.D)

The purpose of this committee is to seek out candidates worthy of academic and scholastic recognition.  Members of this committee, who are former educators, are charged with helping to enhance excellence in schools.

When they meet: The C.O.E.D. committee meets on an as need basis.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The committee is composed of members of the various town committees and citizens. The purpose of the committee is to establish "branding" of the town and to develop a logo, mission statement, goals, and other various economic development activities.

When they meet: Ecomonic Development Committee meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. - April, May, June, 2012
